I HAVE MODELS!!! Swift Claw Raptors!

7/8/11 Special thanks to Brent & Loquacious from House of Paincakes for featuring this squad #1 on their weekly Top X!

6/30/11 Special thanks goes out to Ryan from On The Painting Table for his plug on his Space Marine supplemental to the weekly top ten for my Raptor squad!

Yes I have models!

I give you my Swift Claw Raptors! A few notes: as much as I wanted these guys to fit in with the rest of my Word Bearers I wanted them to look "swift" lightening fast murders if you will. My other models make use of big helmets & lots of purity seal but I decided to leave that all @home on these guys. Also since they have come out I have been DYING for an excuse to buy a box of the sanguinary guard models & these guys gave me that excuse. I felt the angel wings fit after reading The First Heretic & reading that those who the Word Bearers had conquered and introduced the Emperor to as a God considered the Word Bearers literal angels & I kind of wanted to use that... plus I think the angel wings just make them even creepier! Have a look, hope you like them.

This guy the "power weapon guy"in the squad is by far my favorite. I'm usually my own worst critic but I've got to admit that I'm in love with everything about this guy.

Flamer guy isn't may fav but I think he works. I decided to add the special weapon the the swiftclaw pack because I plan on running them as a retinue for a IC with a jump pack.

My second favorite of the squad, I love this guy almost as much as the power weapon chap. I think it's the posses of both that I like so much.

The Mark of Wulfen guy. This is a great example of finishing a model you don't like because it may turn into something you do. I was almost done with him & he just didn't do it for me especially when I started gluing on the wings. I didn't want to use the wings from the possesed box because the IC I'm building to go along with these guys is going to have them & I didn't want to steal his thunder. Once I had the wings glued on all the way and a few other finishing touches finished I actually found i really liked him.

Kind of with the flamer dude... I'm a little meh about this guy... I do like the legs coupled with that chain sword swing.

That's it for now... feels good to be back on the model wagon!

New Models Inbound, Battle Bunker Trip & Finecast.

Models:

Yes I REALLY do have models but have been waiting to post them until I get the squad done. Should have some photos up in the next few days of my first squad in over six months!

L.A. Battle Bunker Trip:

Yesterday I had some free time & I was in the area so I took a cruise over the the L.A. Battle Bunker. Looking through the cases of some of the tricked out armies my jaw hit the floor as thier before me was one of my favorite armies of all time:

The photos from my cell couldn't pull off taking anything clear through the case but they wouldn't have done it justice anyway... none of the photos have.... ever. I think we have all seen tons of them over the years but trust me when I say in person this army is flat out "perfect". Lest we forget it's old, this baby was showcased over 6 years ago in White Dwarf #300, some amazing new models & bitz have been produced by GW since then but these guys still look top notch. I've had the pleasure of meeting the master on one occasion & have had the pleasure of seeing a traitor army he took to an L.A. GT years ago ('03-'04?) along with the also-famous Genswick 33rd Rifles but neither hold a torch to the Custodes close up & personal. The mans work is as phenomenal as his he is a cool person to chat up.

Also snapped some other photos of some cool builds on the walls:

Hate to beat a dead horse but the photo doesn't do the Las Gun justice. It looks like you could take it off the wall and make a last stand against a swarm of Tyranids with it.

Finecast:

Now before I get raked over the coals for "Drinking the GW Kool-Aid" know that for years I have refused to buy any metal models. Not for some stand on the price (though it was a factor) but I hated the metals for pretty much every other reason conceivable. First & foremost I love kit bashing & converting & lets face it doing that with metals was a bitch. Furthermore for me there was nothing in metal I couldn't convert from plastic, in fact I relished the challenge. Anyway when I heard GW was going resin I was thrilled.... as for the price... yeah I'm not so thrilled but occasionally I'll throw down for one now especially if it's something I want to convert.

I picked up a Jump Pack Chaplin who will soon be joining to the forces of Chaos. Yes I saw some cast problems but nothing horrid. For the price they should be better & if GW corrects some problems with the second wave I'll be perfectly OK having Finecast models in my collection.

It's not a disaster but still needs some work, if they get them better I'll be thrilled.

Embrace the Udder Chaos

As I am so found of pointing out my brain can be utter Chaos sometimes. Makes for finishing projects and armies a bitch. So in the past few days I've come to a decision.... embrace the chaos.

I like order, I'm anal. When it comes to armies I like the ones that look very uniform and orderly... like a real army. Yet after 20-30 models I always get distracted by other models that I'd "rather" be building @ this point. So since I love building and converting the followers of the ruinous powers why not embrace the chaos?

So I've decided to build a Chaos army that has all different types of units and looks to each unit. Word Bearers, Berserkers, Slaanesh lovers, the works. After all it's fracking Chaos baby!

Sterngaurd Vets = Noise Marines sounds awesome doesn't it?

Future Army Construction Plans

So as I work my way out of Stracraft 2 and WOW my mind has been turning back to 40k lately and I'm torn on what I wish to construct and/or finish constructing. A few ideas to bounce off of you:

-Continue on with the Word Bearers (Space Wolves)

-Ever since I started on the Word Bearers I immediately regretted not building a Night Lords army instead after seeing Dan the Deamon's army on the Bolter and Chainsword forums, it's everything thats cool in the universe. I don't plan on being able to do THAT much coolness but damn it would be nice to have something similar.

-My most favorite of armies I ever played was an old Lost and the Damned list I used to have out of the Eye of Terror Codex. I loved that it was like a "real" Chaos army from books like Storm of Iron, lots of cannon fodder and pawns backed up by marines. Before starting the Word Bearers I was dead set on building a guard army and allying Grey Knights to represent the elite marines but the Deamonhunters FAQ killed off that idea.... but now we have Codex: Grey Knights, Coatez and Inquisitorial henchman...

Any opinions? Maybe I'll get something done someday. :)

Out of the Fryer and Into the Frying Pan

Hell It's about damn time

Yes indeed I have been playing WOW this whole time. Yes I'm still alive.

The WOW sickness has finally lifted enough for other things in my life turning into a 2 times a week thing instead of an every waking moment thing. So naturally I finally purchased Starcraft 2.

Good news is I've never been the biggest fan of online RTS, I'm more of the single player story line campaign guy so the SC2 sickness can only last SOOO long, leaving me with my minor WOW symptoms, the Red Sox, the NBA playoffs so long as the Celtics are alive and then finally 40k... !

Coming soon... maybe.... hopefully.

Hey slaggin' Tyranids errr.... I mean Zerg has to be good for me right?!

Please Stand By...

We are currently experiencing Technical Difficulties, please stand by.

As the WoW virus continues it's infection of Rich his 40k work has fallen by the wayside. Though there is a crack of light finally piercing through the clouds as he just bought Prospero Burns which should get him in the mood for some modeling and some of the blogs he was scoping out yesterday started stiring the modeling beast inside his soul. Please stand by and we appreciate your continuing patience in this tragic time of ill health for our author.

Anyone play on Suramar?

WoW: No one gets out alive.

"I'll get my wife hooked on World of Warcraft too. That way I can't play it all the time and have to work on other stuff like, eating, bathing, cleaning... oh yeah and 40k too!"

That was the plan and it worked out great because indeed she is now hooked on WoW as well. What I didn't expect is our old "broken" PC to suddenly have it's USB ports miraculously start working again which I noticed almost by a simple mistake. This led to us playing WoW some of Saturday and all day Sunday TOGETHER!

Fail.
